It's GO Time, Friends
YOUR FIRST CALL TO ACTION
Typically I lead with some small news from my personal life. But for the forseeable future, I have only one news item:
TIGRESS ISLAND orders are LIVE!
You can now call your local comic shop and say, “I’d like to reserve (or ‘pull’) a copy of TIGRESS ISLAND issue one, from Image Comics.”
I pitched the series in earnest last newsletter, so I’ll spare you the hard sell. But take a look at the details below and tell me you don’t wanna hold this book in your hands on March 11, 2026. You can’t!
Covers that set the tone, while acting as fantastic standalone art pieces. And interiors that are simply spectacular feats of cartooning. It’s a genuinely great book.
If you don’t have a local comic shop or for some reason cannot get to one, check out Third Eye Comics and Midtown Comics for online ordering. With GEHENNA, stores were really encouraged by the first-time customers they were getting. That’s some of you who know me from music. Very grateful for you. Help me do it again.
PAGES IN MY INBOX
Consider the balloons work-in-progress and instead focus on how classic Pramono’s page feels. He’s unlike any artist I’ve worked with. His sensibilities are vintage in the best meaning of the word. It’s just not a style you see very much.
I have had the good fortune to work with brilliant people, and more importantly, people who are brilliant in their own unique ways.
Unrelated, here’s a character sheet from a project you’ll hear more about soon:
INCOMPRENSIBLE POWER
I just want to praise the mundane here. Email. It’s been on my mind for weeks. Email changes my situation daily. Sometimes I’ll send them just to see if a person I’ve never met will respond.
It’s incredible to think that you’re only ever an address line away from an opportunity. I email with people in Italy, France, and Japan, every day. You can really just wake up in one circumstance and put your head to the pillow with new doors open to you. Because of email. Email someone today about furthering yourself.
PEOPLE I SPOKE TO
There’s an old Scot living in my town. He’s a retiree who walks his Scottish terrier and drinks coffee at the local cafe. He asked me how I liked the town so far. I told him, I like being someplace beautiful. I think it’s good for your spirit if you wake up every day and see something beautiful. He said he’s from a slum in Glasgow where his family’s apartment shared a toilet with three other apartments. So, in his view, he now lives in heaven. I thought, “yeah, your own toilet is a little slice of heaven.”
MEDIA CONSUMPTION
The Banker. I love Robert Forster and I watched this on the strength of him being in the cast. Also, I love specifically this style of idiotic thriller. Felt myself getting stupider, in the best way possible. Recommended.
MAD BULL 34 is as insensitive and crude as you could hope for. It is the spirit of 1990. Every possible opportunity to be cynical is taken and rolled around in like raccoon shit. Recommended.
I started writing TIGRESS ISLAND prior to watching The Hot Box, but it captures the spirit by coincidence. Guerillas kidnap nurses to teach them emergency medical care. What a setup. Recommended.
Rob Reiner directed Defending My Life and also essentially MCs it. I watched it just to see a good natured guy talk with his friend of 50 years. And it really came through on that count. Recommended.
FROM THE DESIGN FOLDER
I love this and will be ripping off the center placed character with colored band beneath featuring same character same pose. And I mean, literally, I am stealing this wholesale. If the original artists have a problem, I invite them to steal anything I’ve done in retaliation/compensation. This is cool in the cleanest way possible.
REMEMBER, TIGRESS ISLAND #1
Give you shop a call today. I’ll be hammering you about issue one because it’s important to debut well, but I promise I’ll keep it interesting. If you wanna tip, feel free to hit the paypal below. But more importantly, call your shop. Alright, I’ll be back soon. Do for self.
