TIGRESS ISLAND
Simply the best women-in-island-prison comic you'll read this year
So much has happened in the past two weeks! But I held back because I wanted to put some drumroll to today’s announcement. I’ll bloviate on the comics matters of the day after I share the following:
EPHK and I invite you to TIGRESS ISLAND!
As you can probably divine from the cover, this is pure exploitation genre work. The conventions and conceits are all there. We’ve got women in prison. Wicked harem guards. Island survival. If you had a non-Blockbuster video store in your town, you know the box art.
TIGRESS ISLAND also happens to be the finest work of a true modern master. EPHK is a cartoonist of the highest order and he’s pushing himself to crazy places with this book.
The premise is simple: Failed actresses are tricked into an island harem and need to escape.
The execution is all about characters. I don’t know what a story is except characters bouncing off each other. And in TIGRESS ISLAND we’ve got shady characters for days.
If you enjoyed GEHENNA: NAKED AGGRESSION for its trashier elements, TIGRESS ISLAND is really gonna blow your skirt up. It moves quick, it’s transgressive, and it’s fun. It goes up for solicit this Friday, but I promise you can call your shop today and let them know you want it.
The series is five issues, and each will have four covers. We’re working with artists the market already loves as well as artists who we think will be the next big thing. And, yes, you will get a NSFW cover on each issue.
Call your shop and tell them you want TIGRESS ISLAND #1!
COMIC NEWS QUICK HITS
All late news!
Tim Seeley is writing some X-book.
Peoplepsychopaths were mad that he put the character Magik in some situation psychopaths believe was disrespectful to her history as a victim of abuse. So psychopaths wished death on Tim Seeley.A guy who scraped and clawed to build a brand from his indie horror book and then went on endure years in the the Marvel cuck chair. He woke up on a Weds morning to psychopaths calling for his job/life. Because a decade ago Marvel decided that they wanted to tap the cosplay-and-major-psychiatric-concerns readership. So this is what they get now. And what Seeley gets. Sad!
Warner Brother sells, to someone. Maybe later. It was gonna be Netflix and then Paramount came in and now I have no idea. All I know is that some DC people are nervous about it. I get it. First thing new owners typically do is itemize inefficiencies. I’m sure DC is profitable, but there’s no way to know what a megacorporation considers worth its time. Worrisome!
Disney did some AI bullshit. I dunno exactly what it is, because I’ll just find it discouraging, but a friend who works there called me beside himself. He sees the writing on the wall and knows his options are to forfeit his work twice (once to editorial dictates and again to the strip-mining of his actual art) or seek work elsewhere. This won’t end well, but few things ever do. Retailers: start directing readers to alternatives. Bummer!
MEDIA CONSUMPTION
THE COLOUR OUT OF SPACE is another faithful adaptation from Gou Tanabe. Your enjoyment of it hinges entirely on your affection for Lovecraft, because the story is not shifted an inch. You now just get sickening visuals to go with it. I’ve enjoyed the all the other work in this series and COLOUR is no different. Recommended.
THE HERO TRADE is not what I expected. Cynical shorts about life among superhumans. Like a darksided ASTRO CITY. I do not consider this the best use of Kindt and Lapham’s time, as it feels minor among their works. But it was undeniably fun, so gotta recommend.
THAT’S IT
You know I’ll be reminding you weekly to call your comic shop, but don’t put it off. If TIGRESS ISLAND seems up your alley, jump on it. We’ve got something special.
Below you’ll find the usual cup for you to drop change in, and also my tour dates this spring. Come out.

Looks great Pat, thanks for taking the time to chat at ABC. Was able to pick up the last copy of Stringer at the show as well. I’ll be calling my store to ask about it soon!
